Travel Vaccinations
If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements. This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required.

It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.
Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.
Booking appointments for Travel Advice and Immunisations

During your first appointment, the nurse will discuss where you are travelling, the duration of your holiday and what activities you may participate in. The nurse will inform you which vaccines are advised along with the cost of individual vaccines, so you are able to make an informed decision and decide which vaccinations you would like to receive prior to your holiday. Some vaccinations consist of a single injection and others consist of a course to obtain immunity. You will also be given travel advice and website addresses to access which will enable you to obtain further travel information and advice. If you decide to proceed with travel vaccinations, appointments will be made for you so they are at the correct intervals.
Some vaccines cannot be ordered until after your initial consultation and need to be paid for in full before we are able to order them. A delay in payment may affect which vaccinations you will be able to receive due to specific time schedules which vaccines must be given in to obtain immunity.
You will need to be flexible when booking travel appointments as we have limited availability due to increased demand and pressure on the NHS.
If you request an appointment within a couple weeks prior to travel, we may not be able to offer you an appointment and you will need to contact a local travel clinic or pharmacy which offers a travel service.
Ideally travel appointments should be made at least 6-8 weeks prior to travel.
