Unfortunately due to the Coronavirus outbreak, the Tuesday Tea Together sessions have been cancelled until further notice. We apologise for the inconvenience but patients are being asked not to attend the surgery unless asked by a member or our Clinical Team. The Friends look forward to seeing you soon.

Friends Update June2020

Surgery Friends

Friends of Wyke Regis and Lanehouse Practice (with Chickerell)

In late 2018 the practice began work with "Altogether Better" to recruit Practice Health Champions to work with the practice supporting both patients and staff. Practice Health Champions are people who voluntarily give their time to help improve the services that the practice offers and offer support to staff, patients and the wider community. Patients of the practice were initially contacted by text were asked if there were interested in becoming a Practice Champion. From that initial invitation a small group of patients joint the project and have attending training workshops and meetings during 2019.

During this development period the group has become known as the Wyke Regis and Lanehouse Medical Practice Friends (with Chickerell) or Friends. The Friends are passionate and enthusiastic about supporting the staff and patients and whilst initially our early projects were guided by needs identified by practice staff we are beginning to develop our own ideas and listen to the feedback from patients who join us at the events that we hold.

Some of our members are helping at the locality Leg Clubs. They are booking patients into the clinics and making tea and coffee. They are also helping with the fund raising by selling raffle tickets.

One of our members has put together a “patient information directory” to help guide our patients to find support groups, community events and club’s or meetings etc. A copy can be found in each surgery waiting room and one will be posted on the website soon.

We have members who are happy to visit vulnerable and lonely patients in their homes to offer them support and company on a regular basis.

We have also recently acquired a piece of ground on the allotment at the top of Rylands Lane. We have members and patients who have already expressed interest in helping with growing flowers and vegetables and we are hoping to link up with the horticultural society next to the allotment.

One of our members is our Digital Champion, she will help patients who would like to become more confident using computers and in particular with using the internet.

As our programme progresses, we would like to offer help and support to patients in many different ways.

If you are interested in any of the above or would like to join and help the group, please contact Teresa at Wyke Surgery on 01305 831330.
